Salla’s brand renewal and visual strategy

Salla is Finland's fastest-growing tourist destination, known for its bold slogan "Middle of nowhere." Salla boasts the world's cleanest water, and this purity is something they wish to preserve. The new look is both classic and modern. The aim was to highlight Salla's pristine nature and the simple, quiet luxury it offers to its visitors.

Starting point

Salla is the fastest-growing travel destination in Finland, known for its bold slogan, “Middle of nowhere.” Salla boasts the cleanest water in the world, and maintaining this purity is a priority. The municipality’s responsible environmental strategy is supported by entrepreneurs, decision-makers, and residents alike.

Salla thrives on its natural environment, and heavy industry has not yet been needed to sustain the region’s work. Since tourism is vital for Salla, the brand has an immeasurable impact on the municipality’s well-being. However, over the years, the brand had become outdated and no longer conveyed the right messages. To advance the brand renewal, a Brand Sprint workshop series was initiated to define a new direction for the municipality. The renewal process included creating new icons, a new visual concept, and a new visual strategy for Salla.

The initial concept workshop helped clarify our goals and expectations for both us and Redandblue. Redandblue listened and understood us well. Results

The new look is both classic and modern. The goal was to highlight Salla’s pristine nature and the simple, quiet luxury it offers visitors.

Salla wanted to present itself as it truly is. There was no need to court the party crowds of ski resorts. Our task was to make this authentic Salla visible.

During the photography sessions, we followed the lives of the local residents and aimed to capture genuine moments. We left posed and staged scenarios to other ski resorts. Salla is a municipality where nature invites you to visit.
